Why Should I Seal / Impregnate My Stone Surface And Grout?
Natural stone sealing Banbury Oxford
Newly bought natural stone and also freshly cleaned/polished/grinded natural stone should ideally always be sealed or impregnated (some exclusions apply) with the appropriate product dependent on your type of stone and your desired surface finish. This will prevent the ingress of dirty mop water, spills, dirt and soils and keep it looking good for longer.
You can see in the pictures below of a marble floor which has been impregnated that any spillages etc bead and sit nicely on top of the stone rather than penetrating it and causing staining and marks etc…
When tiles are being newly fitted, it also becomes a problem if the tiles have not been sealed or impregnated prior to fitting as the grout can penetrate the stone and cause irreversible staining. We have come across this several times and it can be a very expensive mistake to make if it they cant be cleaned and need to be replaced! Below is an example of this with limestone – it is quite hard to see as the grout is a similar colour to the stone but the stone looks patchy and dull…
