Wood floors in an Oxfordshire art gallery

This commercial wood floor sanding in Oxford was a great project with extremely satisfying results! The client had revealed the old, original pitch pine floor boards from underneath a carpet and wanted it restoring to its original beauty, with a natural honey coloured finish.

To help them decide on colour, we carried out a few sample areas of colour for them on quoting as they were also deciding over a darker colour.

We carried out the wood floor sanding using state of the art dust free equipment working through a full range of grits and finishing off with a natural coloured hard wax oil. Hard wax oil is the most suitable finish for this environment as it provides a durable seal that penetrates the surface of the wood. It leaves an open, breathing and diffusive surface finish. Due to the wax content, a uniform matt, velvety surface is produced and this is less likely to show scratches. It can also be easily re-applied if the floor becomes damaged without having to re-sand and finish the whole floor again as with a lacquered finish. Hard wax oils provide a stronger water and dirt repellent surface. They also have very rapid drying times allowing renovation work to be completed in the shortest possible time.
